Apparently my post was very unclear.   I'm already getting log data in files (not the DB) and as indicated, I've already tried smarter stats.  Unless I'm missing something with smarter stats pro, that doesn't solve my problem.   The problem is that all my log files are for all portals, not individual portals and I want seperate stats for each portal.   I'm not aware that DNN solves that problem for me but I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in a viable solution to this.  Is there a configuration option I'm missing?  Otherwise, surely there is a tool that can handle this scenario without having to write one.

first you have to make sure that the HostName is included in the log file (make sure the "Host (cs-host)" option is checked in the IIS logging properties)

next apply site import settings based on host header to the site. Of course, you should create a new site for ever portal....

Check the smarterstats online help to find out how to apply site import settings: http://help.smartertools.com/SmarterStats/v3/Topics/SiteAdmin/Settings/SiteImportSettings.aspx

You can setup Google Analytics for each portal.  See this post on how to insert it into your portal.

Good Luck,

Mike

AFAIK google analytics gives less information than a real log analyzer. eg. bandwith, or hits on files, downloads etc, can not be tracked by google
