When I go to my site it says 'authentication required' and then won't let me in with my user  name and password. It just keeps giving me the authentication dialog box over and over again. You can't even see the site. I know the username ad password are correct.

I think this has to be the last straw! This website needs to work this weekend. Can anybody help & tell me what has happened. i think it might be back to boring old html or me!

Try to check the security settings in IIS from the properties of your websit, check the Directory Security tab and make sure that Anonymous Access is enabled for the site.

it is probably asking for the site login not the DNN login. After an install or after you add modules on shared hosting you can get this situation. have a look in the

Portals\_default\EventQueue directory - delete all files except EventQueue.config ( in fact you should be able to delete this dnn will recreate it)once this is done then you should not see the login window.

if this was the cause of it you will have to repeat the procedure every time you install a module.

apparently

it seems the identity impersonation doesnt kick in until after the application has started and therefore any file writes attempted during the Application_Start event will fail as the worker process user doesnt have NTFS permissions on the domain webspace.

Thank-you very much for your replies.

I now know exactly what the problem is but I still don't know how to fix it. My host changed the passwords on everything including my database. Now I don't know what the database password is. I have tried the one the host gave me but it doesn't work and if I try it once I just get the Login failed screen and then there's nothing I can do. It seems that it's looking for the db  password as the login failed screen has my db user name on it.

What on earth shall I do?

Through the control panel on my host I have set the db administrator password but when I go to my site it won't accept it. It won't accept any other db user names and passwords either. I have tried logging in with my host username and password (I can get into FTP or the site using these) but that doesn't work either.

I saw a fix for when I lost my password which was to go into the ASPNet_Membership table which I don't know how to find and anyway, that's separate from the database password.

I am at a loss about what to as I've been calling the host but they've said it's a dnn problem. Site is www.shapeshiftingchembot.com

I'm real rouble here as this problems seems to be insoluable. At this rate I am going to have to go back to html which I really don't want to do!
