Hi all,

I have a problem here where my customer want to put the file on the site and the file size is 613Mb. I upload into the system without a problem because I uploaded through the backend; however, when the customer tried to downloaded, the site is freezed and the site performance become slow. Is there any workaround on this? I created separate app pool for this site and I already uncheck the maximum server memory. Is there any other things I can do to allow downloading such a big file like this?

There is a way to do this in the web.config, but I would have to question the need to actually do this.  Enlarging the maximum request size poses some security concerns.

Creating a new app pool is not a great idea, as you just split the amount of memory alloted to IIS operations.  The memory is alloted evenly across all app pools.

How large is the file if is zipped?

Go into the web.config and modify the httpruntime element to have a MaxRequestLength to be probably triple what it is now. Also make sure your excecutionTimeout is set to a sufficient time (in seconds) to accomodate the new MaxRequestLength.

After I zipped, it becomes 594Mb instead of 618Mb. What do you mean with changes in web.config? Thanks in advance.

Here is what Microsoft has to say on the topic:

Limiting the maximumRequestLength is never a good idea, as it exposes your web server to Denial of Service (DOS) attacks (if it is in a public realm).  In addition, it is not user-friendly to provide a file that large to end-users, as the download time is not acceptable.  I would suggest that you find a way around this, if you can.
