It doesn't work well for me either, since it does exactly what you are describing on my portal  too.  The problem now is I cannot add any new pages without this stupid bloody error! and  it is driving me nuts!  does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm going nuts aswell...I have been designing the layout of my pages adding modules,adsense  etc making the appearance look right.  So what I am doing is adding a module then decide it may look better to be moved up, down, right pane etc etc and move the module where it needs to be which when there is only add module to top or bottom you dont have much choice but to move it at times. 

Then when it's looking good I copy page but when it copies it exactly the way it was when the modules were placed in their original position which seems pontless to me which is not "actually" classified as copied in effect.  So I then try this export/import page and thats a load of BS also as it will copy some module and not others.  so I then tried to export import individual modules and to transfer them into a new page but it seem export function only works properly on text/html module but on announcements it will export and say it has imported when in fact it hasn't

Now whenever I copy a page I am geting 4 instances of every single module on my page?  What is going on????

This is driving me crazy!  Is anyone else having this problem or is it a bug in my application only?...

I have given up on the export/ import setting cause that just doesn' work for me so....

I make a page and on the left is links, afiliate ads, and other modules that are all set up in order from top to bottom as I want them.  I then need another page with exactly the same format with modules in exactly the same order.  So I copy from that page ticking the boxes that need to be referenced/copied/new etc but, no matter how many times I try this it will not copy the modules in the same order as they were originally intended ie; module that should be at the top is now at the bottom?

Ok, I could easily move them but doing this with over a hundred pages is extremly time consuming.  What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I have sussed out the problem with modules not copying in the order they were meant to and why when the use of Export/impot page brings up multiple instances of the same modules.  It seems its due to the use of the (dangerous) show module on every page.  I am trying to avoid the use of this and instead use reference instead.  Still cannot work out though why when export/import page is used despite clicking 'include content' why it decides to include some content and not the content of every module? And why export /import content on the announcements module doesn't work?

The page export function isn't really for creating duplicate pages. It is for creating "Page Templates" that will be used when someone creates a new page. They are just "templates". The convenience is that the new page will contain the required modules ready for use so long as those modules are present and available in the portal. 

As you've also discovered, the option to export content only confuses the function and it only works with certain, simple modules. I would check in the Annoucements module forum whether that is supposed to export content in a page template because it may be a bug if it doesn't.

If you have to copy a page with all existing content to another location on the portal, you can use the Add Page options to copy modules and/or content from another page when you first create the page. This works because it doesn't have to create a packaged template and instead just shadows items across.

The DNN templating and content exporting functions are only slowly evolving so I wouldn't place too many requirements on them yet. I'm pleased enough that page templates were recently added.
