You may be on the right track. I keep reading to use the same user in the app pool that has permission to access the share,

http://bchavez.bitarmory.com/archive/2007/08/23/catastrophic-failure-exception-from-hresult-0x8000ffff-e_unexpected.aspx

I have tried it but when I set it up that way I cannot even get the app pool to start. It simply doesn't work if I don't use the network Service as the user.  Permissions might be the issue.

Hi, if I change the app pool credentials to anything but the network service I get a 'Service unavailable' message.

Tony, did you make any progress with this? I am still seeing the error.

Are you running .NET 2 or .NET 2 SP1?  We're having issues getting 4.7 to run after we upgraded to the new SP1.  We're going to try backing out SP1 to see if it fixes our issues.
