Hey Everyone,  I created a portal for my neighborhood community with godaddy about a year ago and use the DNN portal.

I have the portal in a "/community" folder.  There is an asp page that does a redirect to the community folder.

Sometimes the site is very slow to load the home page.  Is there a setting or anything that can be adjusted from the admin or host account?  Once the site loads it speeds along.

If your site is used infrequently, your app pool will get recycled. Then when it's hit, there is extra overhead of allocating memory. There are several third-party "keep alive" modules that will help with your problem. Also, you can use a thrid-party monitoring service hit your site periodically -- have it hit the KeepAlive.aspx page.

This is true of any .Net web application.  It is just the nature of the beast.  When the app is not being used, it unloads from the Application Pool to conserve resources.

Here are a couple of the most popular solutions that address various aspects of this problem:

Host Tracker

Page Blaster Module

Also, here is a useful blog that is talking about Keep Alive services.  The comments are especially useful.
