Well I traced every single dotnetnuke.* dll file in the bin directory and have not been able to get past it on this one installation.

I am going to try now to see if somehow there is a third party module that is causing problems, but I am not sure how that would be possible.

This is very odd as I have completed MANY 3.x - 4.x upgrades in the past without issue.

I had the same problem.  Then I downloaded the source and just recompiled the source for release (but I did not publish it as publishing creates all sorts of issues) and I ran the DB scripts manually (the upgrade scripts failed so I had to edit the scripts).  It now works except that the login is failing (I'll ask about this in a separate thread so as not to confuse this one).

I'm receiving almost the same error message. The first part looks to be identical, but the second part is a little different.  Here's the error:
