Try following Sebastian's instructions and clear your recycle bin (click that link "Empty Recycle Bin").  It's the DNN recycling bin, not the computer's recycling bin.

Thanks for that helpful clarification.  I had high hopes, but still no change after clearing the bin.  Does DNN need to be restarted or anything like that to see the effects?  I did notice that even though my consultant who handles the DNN server said that the 4.8 update was complete, the current version is still showing 4.7 in the SuperUser acct.  So perhaps something is still hung up with the update.

This search problem began with the update to 4.7

Thanks again everyone for all your help with this perplexing problem.

Run this query against your database substituting your portal ID:

EXEC [GetModuleByDefinition] YourPortalidGoesHere, 'Search Results'

How many line items do you get for the query result?  It's good news if you get only one.

No news is not neccessarily good news - I can't seem to get the query to run.  I go to SQL under the host menu, browse to website.mdf, which is what I assume is the site DB based on the connection string in my web config file. I put EXEC [GetModuleByDefinition] 0, 'Search Results' into the entry box and click "Execute".  Nothing happens.  I then check run as script and click Execute again, it tells me "The Query completed successfully!"  Not the feedback I'm looking for.  As is apparent, I am outside of my knowledge box here.

1.  You don't need to browse to anything.  Leave that blank.

2.  You don't need to check "run as script".  Keep it unchecked.

That will work...
