I'm brand new to the DotNetNuke world as  far as my upcoming question is sure to illustrate(the boss tossed me a dnn skinning book and said hey learn this).  I have been unable to upload to DotNetNuke anything other than skin packages. I have managed to upload a couple of homemade skinning files and although ugly they are working. Now I'm wanting to upload other files, but I keep running into the following error.

Host Root: C:\Documents and Settings\medwards\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\WebSites\DotNetNuke Website2\Portals\_default\

    Upload File

An Error Has Occurred When Attempting To Save The File C:\Documents and Settings\medwards\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\WebSites\DotNetNuke Website2\Portals\_default\totals.txt. Please Contact Your Hosting Provider To Ensure The Appropriate Security Settings Have Been Enabled On The Server.

I know that I can go to host>host settings>advanced settings> other settings to control which types of files can be uploaded. I have also heard that one can set folder permissions which affect who can upload or download from certain folders. I do not know how to find that page and wondering if that might be what this security statement is referring to.

Use Windows Explorer (not IE) and open the path shown.  Right clcik on the \DotNetNuke Website2 folder and choose security tab.  Add the ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE account (depending on OS), or select it if it's in the list and ensure MODIFY is checked.  Click OK and you should be good for security.  Make sure the ASPX extension, as well as TXT,  is allowed as an allowed file type for upload.

Thank you for the help. I knew about how to make sure the right file type extensions were allowed but hadn't thought about the aspx extension. Also while changing the permissions  on the folders, I guess its important to note that it does not work immeadiately. I dont know if rebooting it or erasing the internet page cache kicked it into gear after adjusting the security settings but its working now. Once again thanks for the help.
