None of the DNN stats modules provide much detail and the best use I've found for them is to give site owners a quick look at a week's worth of stats the using Gotdnn Site Stats module.

Have you tried a commercial stats package like SmarterStats? Their support forum is visible to all and they may be able to help you get it working. It's a very tidy package... customers love the emailed formatted stats it sends out.

Or of course Google Analytics does a good job with DNN and also looks tidy. You can set it to email stats out or provide logins for clients. Use one of the Analytics modules for it so you can keep it on external pages and exclude internal roles.
