Update:

I really didn't know what else to do, so against advice I did the upgrade from 4.7 to 4.8 and the site now works, and has been for over 2 weeks now. (Knock on wood)

I did find some posts that implied caching could have something to do with these out of nowhere errors.  So, after the upgrade I did turn caching completely off even though I'd like it to be on and increase the performance of a lot of my pages that don't change very often.   Right now I'd rather have a sight up and running that is a little slower than being down.

Hoping that these issues with be resolved in the next release.

Joe

For those interested, I asked John Mitchel from Snapsis.Com about this issue and he gave some insights and a (possible) solution.

Here's the link:

Outstanding.  I'll try turning my caching off then and see if that does anything on 4.7.

Anybody seeing "Application Started" messages in their logs associated with this that are a couple minutes apart without any "Application Stopped" messages?

I wonder if there isn't a memory issue that is causing the server to shut my site down associated with this issue.  Anyhoo...

Tried turning off "heavy caching" to no caching and it made the site slower but I still got the error.  And then I had issues with memory usage on my host so I had to turn caching back on.

Dear All,

The past week I've been testing my DNN install and have found that the Random Bug:

  • PageLoadException Multiple controls with the same ID 'ScriptManager'

appears when Ajax is enabled under Host settings. I understand that the solution offered in the previous post also has something to do with the .dll file handling Ajax.

Anyways with Ajax disabled, which is a new feature since DNN 4.7 / DNN 4.8 I believe...the error goes away.

I've done some performance testing, playing with module cache settings, IIS6 HTTP compression, etc and got some good results.

But still get the the occasional 3005 event errors in my event viewer and DNN hanging. I'll try to post a performance tuning guide of some sort when I got things running more smoothly when time permits.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
