Hallo,

I'm setting up an intranet. Users login via Active Directory.

I want to import all the users that will have access to site in DNN. So I can add  extra information to their profile.

At this moment a profile is created the first time when the user logs on via AD.
It a lot of work to log in every user and then add information to the profile.

Is there a way to import the users from AD?

I looked at this module :  http://www.dnnmasters.com/products/user/user-import-manager.htm

The module can import users from AD. But they can't garantee that the authentication via AD will work with the imported users. They have no experience with the AD provider.

It imports passwords as a hash or can generate new passwords. Could this cause problems?

What version of DNN are you using? If it's 4.6.0 or above then it "should" work as the AD is queried for the correct password if they don't match on manual login. However I've got no experience with this module so I can't guarantee anything.

We are using 4.6.2 at this moment and planning to upgrade to 4.7 You give me good hope that it will work, so I think I will just buy the module and test it. I'll report my results in this thread. Regards, Jan Alwin

Hi Jan

Did you get the chance to do this? I'm interested in finding out.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I thought I posted my results a while ago. But I think something must have gone wrong.

I did get the users imported, but I used another module.

I used dynamicSprings userImport module.    it's much more userfriendly then the other module.

I didn't import directly from AD. I got a excelspreadsheet with the userdata from the sysadmin instead. (I added the workgroup to the username: <workgroup>\<username>)

I imported this excelsheet with the UserImport module. The module generated the passwords.

After importing the user can log in with it's AD username/password and he get's the right profiledata.

It's also easy to update a userprofile with the module.

Regards,
