Hello all,

I seem to have hit my first barrier whilst creating my first DNN site - was really enjoying it until now .
I have the following form I wish to use in a text/html module to query an external site.
Now I've read and understand the issue about not being able to use <form> tag.

So I turned:

<form action="http://www.othersite.com/search.asp" method="get" target="_blank">
<input type="hidden" name="othersite" value="MyID">
<input type="hidden" name="n" value="10">
<input type="hidden" name="action" value="Search">
<input type="text" name="q" size="25" maxlength="50" class="text">
<input type="submit" name="action" value="Search" class="button">
</form>

into:

<input type="hidden" name="othersite" value="MYID">
<input type="hidden" name="n" value="10">
<input type="hidden" name="action" value="Search">
<input type="text" name="q" size="25" maxlength="50" class="text">
<input type="submit" onClick="this.form.action=http://www.othersite.com/search.asp;this.form.submit();">

and placed it into an html/text module. It doesn't work. Just returns to the same page without any results.

I'm sure I've just got my quotes or semi-colons in the wrong place - bit of a newbie when it comes to javascript!
Finally how to I get the results to open in a new window if I can't use target="_blank"?
Thanks for any guidance,
relkeel

It appears that you are missing the single quotes around the url in the this.form.action= section.

As a side note, I would recommend downloading the FireFox Web Developer Toolbar, or Firebug, as when working with JS they are VERY helpful!

Thanks for the reply Mitchel. I actually found out about the <form> issue on one of your blogs/postings.

Initially adding the single quotes didn't make any difference, I still had a problem. That is, clicking the Submit button seemed to initiate something but simply returned to the same page whereas it is supposed to go to the search results page of the 'othersite'.
I installed the Firefox add-on as suggested and decided while I was there to look at my site in Firefox (I'm had been primarily working in IE7). Well, it worked. The search results page appeared! So I guess it's an IE7 problem. My first thought is to check the settings for javascript restrictions.
Any other thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks again,
relkeel
