I need to access a SQL Server Instance from my web host (ihostasp.net) to one of my local servers

I have added the connection string as follows: add name="RGServer" connectionString="Server=204.11.111.11\MRInventory;Database=RGInventoryV2;uid=ABC;pwd=1111;"

and also in the add key of the app settings.

However I am getting an error that it cannot find the server connection.

This is a SQL 2000 DB.

I had ihostasp.net add the address to thier safe site list.

I am having my admin check out our fire wall.

I'm just trying to figure out if I've done something wrong with the connection string.

I have a default instance running to another server in my system. This is the first time I've tried tio reference a non-default instance with a connection string though.

Please help

Unless you have updated the web.config in a whole lot of places (SQLDataProvider, MembershipProvider, etc) you need to use "SiteSqlServer" as the name of the connectionString not "RGServer".  This is true for the one in the ConnectionString section and the appSetting section.

I am not replacing the SiteSqlServer. This is being hosted on my ISP. I am adding an external data server that is called RGSERVER. This resides on my clients local domain server. It has it's own SQL Server instance. I have been able in the past connected to my clients default instance on one of their servers, but I seem to have a problem connecting to an instance on this second server. I am trying to find out if I have the string correct to make this new connection. If it is correct then I have other issues, probably firewall issues that I must address.

Make sure they are running that instance under the default port.  You might have to include the port in the connection string.

How do I do that in the connection string? I think that may be the issue after talking with my network administrator.
