Has anyone else ran into this?

I upgraded to DNN 4.8, and now, none of the users passwords will work.  I suspect I'll have to roll the database back to correct it (I hope), but I don't know why this would happen.  Any ideas or suggestions?  I can correct it, however, I'm more concerned with why it happened in the first place.

Thanks as always...

Greg

People run into it all the time. You most likely forgot to copy the MachineKey section of your old web.config to your new web.config.

Hopefully you backed up the site then you can easily just copy over the old section, if not you'll have a few other options.

1. Rollback to a database backup/DNN version and do the upgrade again

2. If you only have admin users you can "register" with a new user, be sure to remember the password for that user. Then copy that new user's password/salt from the asp.net tables over your other users' password/salt to assign them that new password.

Chris,

Thanks, it was the machine key that is the problem.  Normally, I don't replace the web.config when doing an upgrade, but I noticed some posts of people having problems with 4.8 if they did not.  The machine key didn't dawn on me until you mentioned it.  Feeling like a first year programmer now!! lol.

Thanks again,

Greg

I'm glad that got you going Greg. Some people aren't fortunate enough to have a backup web.config file to roll back to!
