Could someone explain the major differences between the news module and xml module?

I have wondered about this for a while now and never bothered to look under the hood of these 2 modules.

On the surface they would appear to be doing the same thing.

Just curious...but not enough to dig deeper myself =D

Well, Bent,

Are u 2 busy to search?

Ok, here's a link where I answered a similar question last year...

It really depends on the version you are using, but basically, the current RSS News module and the XML/XSL are similar.  As the XML/XSL module evolved, the features in it have seen it become a more flexible module to use for solutions requiring customized data island display and translation.  While, the RSS Module only is designed for simple RSS newsfeeds by default, it can be flexed to support more robust versions of RSS with custom xsl tranformation files.

Thanks for the reply, and thanks also for sharing your knowledge of xml/xsl elsewhere- I have benefitted enormously from your posts. ( I totally agree)
