For most my skins, I just work up the skin.html in DW while running Photoshop on my 2nd monitor. Then I just build up the skin from it's basic elements starting with:

  • skin.html
  • skin.xml
  • skin.css
  • skin.jpg

Of course, if there are multiple skins in the package, they are named accordingly.... I have also setup a "code snippets" directory that I use to hold my starter code which I've found speeds up my production 3-4 fold. This usually is the basic layout for HTML (tables or DIVs), a CSS file with a "blank" portal.css copied in for reference, and an XML starter that has most the elements I work with defined with their own CSS classes and standard attributes I work with. I usually will link the CSS file to help me visualize as I go, then I just pick out the parts of the PSD that I actually need and apply them as I go trying to keep filesize and bulk down while using whatever CSS I can to lighten the pageload.

There are so many approaches to this, But Wells Doty is closer to my approach, slicing is more an art rather than science. each design dictates a different approach. Basic slicing is far easier in Firework than Photoshop. But manual slicing in photoshop is also effective, with rullers added on top of the image so to replicate the basic HTML structure you have in Dreamweaver, and then slice slowly till all the elemnets are created to populate the dreamweaver HTML

Out of curiosity, where can I set it to display my Screen Name instead of my actual name? Alot of people recognize me from here and other boards (Sitepoint, etc) as SilentBob.

Edit - Think I found it (hope)
