Hi All

Does anyone know the definitive list of permissions required by the ASPNET account (under IIS5) for:

   a) installing and

   b) running

DNN 4.0.2? I don't think that the information in the "DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf" file is up to date! I've had some problems installing, and to get the thing running I had to give Full Control to the entire folder tree...

Also, where is the "DesktopModules" folder now?

If it helps, I am installing from the Source distribution.

Many thanks,

Nick.

The root folder requires read, write and web (view) permissions.  Please note that none of the folders require the browsable permission.

For the other folders you can just use my instructions  for setting up on Go Daddy.  While currently specific to Go Daddy the folder setup and permission are generic.

Installing DNN 4.02 on GoDaddy at the “root” level.

Here is my journey down this path (hopefully not an abyss):

GoDaddy:

Followed all the directions so far with setting permissions on bin, Portals, DesktopModules. (renamed the lower case portals and desktopmodules to Portals and DesktopModules on my web site with MS Internet Explorer in ftp mode.

For web.config:

Modified web.config with my Server, Database, uid, and pwd.

Moved the horrible “-->” end of comments around (2 moved a and 2 added).

Web site:

  • Emptied my web site of all files.
  • Hand copied all the DNN files over to my “root” folder.
  • Since bin and Portal are already defined on my site (from above) I went inside bin and Portal and copied their contents to bin and Portal on my web site.

Started the DNN installation by typing in www.MyWebSite.com in my browser and after 20 seconds got the following error message:

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Could not find a part of the path 'd:\hosting\perrym\Config\Backup_2006214113\web_.config'.Access to the path 'd:\hosting\perrym\web.config' is denied.Access to the path 'd:\hosting\perrym\SiteUrls.config' is denied.

I’m stumped – can anyone help?

I’m guessing more permissions need to be set, but I haven’t a clue where to go.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Perry
