Maria,

Not exactly sure what you mean.  I can think of several possibilities, but it really depends on the level of detail, and methods you envision.  Why don't you give us your take on what a news archive should be, and what it should do.  Then, we can come up with a more definitive approach to a solution.

Thanks

Hi, Thank a lot for your reply! I'll try to describe the issue. Actually, we decided to update news on our website “manually” – just by searching the web, using different sources which are relevant to our topics. So we do not use the RSS option, as we tried and found out that it returns quite irrelevant news feeds. So we are going to update news on a regular basis, and would like to store the old ones on a separate page – so our visitors would be able to look through them if interested. I am wondering which solution is the most appropriate for this purpose. If you gave me some advice it would be much appreciated! Thanks again! Maria

Ok, given just the bit you've said, I think it's still hard to tell what would be best.  It kind of depends on your version of DNN running, what modules you are using for the new stories displays.  If you are using a more current version of DNN, you could leverage the built-in news browser feature of the RSS News module to build a nice OPML file to setup tabs and links to your various news articles.  See this link for a bit more info on that type of setup, www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/48/threadid/168802/scope/posts/Default.aspx

The other suggestion, if you do all of this manually, you might just build links to the stories, but it's not a very practical way to present them, as there's no way to organize them.

I guess, from what you describe, I might go with a custom OPML file to do it.  We don't have a built-in OPML editor, so the chore of maintaining the file is left to the backend system administrator.  In your case, that might not be so bad, as you do most of setup now, manually with your approach.  OPML isn't that hard to learn, but be aware that the DNN implementation here is very strict, so read that post above to get some idea of what's going on.

If you need more, send me an email, and we can get down to it a bit more.  Just so you know, I'm pretty busy with an OpenVMS to HPUX conversion, so it may take some time for me to respond.

Cheers Maria!
