Does anyone have any experience setting up a DNN site through the web host 1&1 - http://www.1and1.com/? I am going to be setting one up there in the near future and was hoping to obtain any insights that I can learn before hand. I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Jody Wood

Jody,

I had a web site on 1&1.com at one time (last year). I had issues trying to switch over to DNN on their site. When I contacted their support staff about the problems they informed me that they did not support DNN because it consumed too many resources. I'm not sure if they have changed their tune since then but I was not happy with their support. Since then have switched over to WebHost4Life and I'm am just as miserable there - see the thread on "WebHost4Life".

Jody,

I too have heard less than perfect stories about individuals on 1&1 hosting.

I would recommend that if you can that you investigate other hosting partners, such as PowerDNN or 3Essentials.  I have been with 3Essentials for about a year now and have no complaints.  PowerDNN is also a great choice as they only work with DNN so you will have people there to help you if needed for upgrades etc.

I too tried 1&1 just to see how they would fare since they had such a low price.... i cancelled after about 60 days.  I have approximately 40 DNN sites on crystaltech and have for around 8 years now... their support is superior and they openly :)... support DNN.

It looks like the suggested DNN hosts - PowerDNN, 3Essentials, and Crystaltech - do not provide any domains with their hosting packages. Is this correct? If so, I take it that you have to register your domain elsewhere and have it point to one of these hosts. Is that what you are recommending? So in my case, you are suggesting that I point my 1&1 domain(s) to one of the web hosting solutions for DNN. Do you know what needs to happen in that area? I have not previously had to deal with that previously, so it will be a new experience.

Thanks for the feedback on 1&1 hosting with DNN.

Thanks,
Jody Wood
