I was curious to know which edition of VS2008 you guys are using? Express, Standard, Professional, etc.

Do these techniques even work in VS2008 Express?

I've been looking for a thread like this for a while, just didn't want to start one without doing my homework.

Thanks!

The compiled module project does not work with VS2008 Express.

You do not need the compiled module project to make modules with DotNetNuke. So if it's causing you problems simply don't use it. Please don't think that making DotNetNuke modules has to be difficult. It doesn't. It's actually fast and easy.

Craig,

I agree with Michael in relation to building DotNetNuke is really quite easy and well work studying the concepts. While this discussion is based around VS2008 the concepts are the same, the difficulties expressed here are around minor changes in VS and IIS and are easy to resolve, hopefully thats why this forum exists, to share our discoveries.

You should not be put off by such minor matters, the journey is very rewarding and the knowledge learnt from techniques will serve you well, very few products offer such a wide range of benefits and knowledge transfer to developers.

Plus, while it many be challenging at times, this community forum will normally have the answers that you may be seeking.

Craig

Pepijn,

to solve your error regarding dotnetnuke_2 path open the solution file with a text editor and adopt the path to the location of your web site.

Hi,

I am facing the same problem and currently the only way for me is to use the internal webserver and set the "Start URL" to something like http://localhost/MyDNN_Installation

Does any of you guys have figured out how to use IIS with this?

When I set the IISUrl to http://localhost/MyDNN_Installation/DesktopModules/MyModuleName then I always get an VS2008 error saysing that it cannot debug because the web server is not correctly configured. However I don't see what else I could possibly do with the IIS to enable debugging apart from turning on Windows Authentication (which I did).

Anyone has anymore insight?

Cheers,

Tillman

Update: I now have created a new virtual directory with some bogus name like http://localhost/Dummy and have set the StartURL to http://localhost/MyDNN_Installation - that works quite nicely. But then it really looks and feels like a hack so I wonder if there is a cleaner method.
