I have unsuccesfully tried to install DotNetNuke v4.02 for Visual Studio 2005. I recieved a plethora of install errors, and so I decided to instead try installing version 3.X running under Visual studio 2003. I keep getting the following error message

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

I googled this error message and discovered that this has been a persistent problem for the DotNetNuke 3.x install. I found a thread of discussion where traced into the DNN code and discovered that their connection strings were correct, but that their appears to be some type of problem in the DNN code. So basically what I discovered is that thousands of man hours have probably been wasted by people trying to install this product. Does anyone have any solution to this problem?

If not, then I can only conclude that the downloadable installation package on dotnetnuke.com is defective?

Just curios? Does anyone know if anyone is Selling a CD rom disk I can purchase that has a legitimate installable version of DotNetNuke for Windows XP Professional?

If not, is there a similar product (Not necessarily open source) that I might be able to purchase for .NET. Something that I can download and get up and running and start building a website with?

I downloaded and installed PHP nuke within one hour, with no complications. Yet, I don't want to develop website with PHP and MySQL. I would prefer to stay with Microsoft.

Any help out their? advice, etc?

Start with the Installation Guide (from the documentation zip in the downloads area) and then come back and re-read your post, you will see that you could have installed DNn in under 5 minutes after reading the instrucions.

Hello,

Do not get too frustrated.  Also, despite what any of the DNN gurus say, you cannot sucessfully install from the 4.0..2 installation file by following the instructions.  They miss at least a half dozen things in the instructions that you have to do.  I believe this is what you need to do in the web.config

·         Change in both <App Settings> and <Connection Strings>:    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|DotNetNuke.mdf;"/>

 

This is not in the installation instructions.  Good luck!

 I have read the installation guide! Several times.

Respectfully, I think you need to start reading the posts that are left  by different people on the DotNetNuke install forum. We have educated people who are reading the installation guides and not getting results. Obviously this is not a 5 minute install. Read further, I saw a post the other day where someone has been trying to install DotNetNuke for the past three months.

 Please re-read my Post hooligannes. You will see that many other people are having the same problems I am having. Re-read the section about how I googled the common connection string error. How others have traced into the DotNetNuke code and have not been able to solve this problem.

If you are convinced that this is a 5 minute install then possibly you can spend some time on this forum helping people by giving some solutions.
