Yes, in the config file there are two ConnectionString strings. If the hosting company setup SQL Express (db would be in app_Data) the SQL2000/2005 connection strings would be surrounded by <!-- and -->

Otherwise the sql 2000/2005 strings wouldn't be commented out, and may give you a bit more info as to where the DB actually is. Though, if you don't know much about SQL you'll have a hard time getting to the database, if it is possible at all.

Looks like you don't have actual db file in app_Data directory. If you still have host access to your old company.

Try these;

First; Go to hosting company website and checkout what they provide; if they provide backup and download database, then you could take backups of database, this is useful. To do this, you have to login their control panel and look for Backup Database & Download Backups section or something like that.

Second; If they do not provide first  backup option  there is a module called Evotiva Backupscript. It does the backup for your database and files of dnn installation. You can purchase this module from Snowcovered and try to backup* restore your db and portal files into local drive first.

If you are not familiar with these, i can help you to do that (drop an email to support@mynetnuke.com to request quote). But you know, some modules may cause difficulties while back up db. So i can't promise it will be easy task.

Regards.

Unfortunately I don't know who the provider is. It's being hosted by the "company" that's supposedly doing the site for us.

Here's the string from the config file where the database is:

add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=houstonpettalk;uid=xxxx;pwd=xxxx;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"

Also, here is the URL to the hosted site we've built.

http://www.houstonpettalk.com.dnnmax.com/

Thanks again for all your responses.

Hi again, looks like your website is hosted by PowerDNN,

I  have some suggestions for you; please write down here your email address. It is about security.

If it were me, given your situation, I would take the easy way out. Get an account at powerdnn.com and they will handle the transfer for you for free.

Also, the dnnmax.com temporary domain name is the same as powerdnn.com uses so it may be the "company" is hosting at powerdnn.com already.

Hope this helps

Greg
