DNN is not connecting with your Exchange server, so something is blcoking it.  DNN does not "send" mail, the mail server does, and your mail server may not be configured to allow your DNN server to connect.  Check the SMTP logs on the Exchange server, or have the Exchange admin check them, to see what may be wrong.

In the past when I piggybacked off my exchange server, I would have to setup Exchange to allow relay from my web server - Have you setup Exchange so that it recognizes that emails coming from your web server are legit and it should process them?

i asked the admin to look at the exchange logs, he said there is nothing logged in it that comes from the webserver.

Sanjay Mehrotra, can you tell me how to setup Exchange to allow and process emails coming from my webserver ?

If there is no connection attempt logged by Exchange, it isn't Exchange denying access.  You haven't made it to Exchange yet.  Make sure the SMTP server listed in DNN is valid.  It must be a FQDN that points to the Exchange server, such as exchange.sample.com.  Or it must be the IP address of the Exchange server, in brackets, as in [192.168.1.10].  Exchange must be configured to allow relay from your server, or better yet all who authenticate.  If you use authentication, you must provide a username and password that is valid on Exchange.

There must be no firewalls or other security software blocking port 25 between you and the Exchange server.
