Hi All,

I have some documents that I have uploaded to my site and then linked to on a page. These files are located within the DNN folder structure. I can link to them and they open as expected. However, I am able to grab the URL of the documents and paste that to access the documents even if I'm not logged in to the Portal.

Is there any way of preventing this? Forcing a user to log in when they access anything within the Portal.

Thanks.

You could put the files into a protected folder, or hide the module to non-authenticated users.

Thanks for the reply.

How would I protect the folder? I did set the Security Settings within DNN for the folder to only allow Registered Users to view the folder.

The module / entire portal is protected from non-registered users.

However, I'm still able to access files within the folder if I use the URL of the file. For example, if I paste http://www.myportal.com/pathtofile/file.txt into a browser it will open that file even when I'm not logged in.

I hate this Forum bug!...  (This is the second post today that this has happened to.)

I would reply to you, but there is still a forum bug that is preventing me from seeing the posted reply that I know you have made.  So, please do not think I am ignoring you if you have said anything that needs an immediate reply.  I will try to remember to revisit this post later.

You would want to create a new folder and put the downloadable files in it.  However, this folder should be created with the "Secure - File System" or "Secure - Database" option.  Here is a blog that explains the differences:

This will prevent people from grabbing the file using the URL.
