I am experimenting diferent kind of issue the language editor

I am using DNN 4.7, my default language instalation is spanish.

I am currently working on translation and went through the following troubles that i havn't yet fixed.

1. Update problems with the ManageUser.ascx.resx in the language editor: i am making some changes in some ressources but when i update to save my change it appears that nothing has changed

2.As you can see, eventhough the whole ManageUser.ascx.resx file is fully translated, some fields still display in English, as you can notice in the following:

Live example here: http://www.livedatasecurity.com/Inicio/tabid/36/ctl/Register/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2fInicio%2ftabid%2f36%2fDefault.aspx

3. When you want to edit a ressource with the FCK Editor, if you clic on Cancel, you don't return to the previous page but to the Admin>Language one (ia cheked many times, from many files location in the language editor.

Is there a way to solve these?

1. make sure, files are not write protected and the virtual user ("Network Service" or "ASPNET" on WinXP) has sufficient permission to edit and create files

2. use the resource verifier to identify missing files and keys

3. please log this as a bug in the public issue tracker at support.dotnetnuke.com.

Hi Sebastian

First of all, i post point 3 in the bug tracker.

About the two other point, i cheked permissions & writing rights and they're OK. Then i went to the Ressource verifier and i think this utility is not working properly.

According to the Online Help, theses are the options and the way to solve issues:

There are three different issues that can be found for any resource file:

  • Missing File: The localized version for a given resource file is missing. To correct this issue select the resource file on the Languages Localization Editor and the language where the error is given. The localized file will be automatically created.
  • Missing Entry: The localized version for a given resource file does not include some entries that are present on the default system resource file. To correct this issue select the resource file on the Languages Localization Editor and the language where the error is given. You will be given the option to add all missing keys to the localized resource file.
  • Obsolete Entry: The localized version for a given resource file includes some entries that are not present on the default system resource file. To correct this issue select the resource file on the Languages Localization Editor and the language where the error is given. All keys that are not necessary will be automatically deleted.

About missing file: some files on which I have been working and that are fully translated (and currently working in the live instance) appear to be missing. When i go tothe file in the language edition tool, i can check that file exists and is translated. I made another test: I went to the files of a third party module for which i knew no translation were available and on which i didn't work at all. According to the Online Help, by opening this 3d party file, I should have created the missing ressource. I cheked this with the ressource verifier utility and the file were still listed in the missing ones.

About MIssing entries: i choose one of the file with supposed missing entries, Went to it, made some few changes update and the execute again the verifier: the file was still listed as a file with missing entries, whan it should have been fixed according to the online help.

About obsolete Entry, the same thing occured.

Am i doing somethong wrong or is this a bug?

Gui,

please be aware, that language packs need to be created with Language Editor in HOST menu and with System option selected. If you used false mode, files are stored with a different extension and  you can rename them to become system files - remove .host or .0 before .resx at the end of the name. This might be the cause of multiple troubles you have.
