I am implementing a number of servers load balanced which will run DNN AND other web based applications.

Since these applications (along with DNN) produce files from user interaction, all over the place, I need to make sure that Web1, Web2 and Web3 have identical file structures and load balanced. Meaning, if a user uploaded a file to Web2,  then Web1 and Web3 would get the copy instantly.

I know DNN has some web farm features built in, but I need this to work with non-DNN web apps as well.

I have seen DFS replication suggested (strikes me as a big solution for a small problem and involves a 4th server). Is there anything out there that would do this reliably, that can be monitored and run as a service?

How are other people doing this?

DFS replication would be the "official" Microsoft method.  Otherwise there are third party replication services for this.  It's not a DNN issue, or even a web issue.  DoubleTake is the one I'm familiar with, but there are others.
