Hi Lee

Not sure I can help further. I use the Express editions which don't support SLN files. I'd say that the SLN files contain the namespace references and such. I hope to dig around later today and see what I did to get the source version working.

The Starter Kit is similar to the Install version - ie no source - but has some templates for creating dnn sites, modules and skins.

Hi Mike,

I have the VS 2008 Express as well.  I was hoping to get the solution working with this (source), but decided to go for the easier VS 2005 option. If you get the source working on an Express version, drop me a post.
