I was using Visual Studio 2005 to work live with my DDN site. After installing Visual Studio 2008, everything stopped. I could not load the site at all. So, I un-installed 2008. Still could not get the DNN site to come up in 2005. So I un-installed 2005 and every last Microsoft component and SQL element that I could find. The I re-installed 2005. STILL no luck.

I have been opening the site through File > Open Web Site and using the FTP connection. It moves the small status bar to the end and hour-glasses. The network lights look like it's transferring tons of stuff, but it won't load.

So, first question (before I through the notebook against the wall or resign myself to re-loading the whole thing), is: does anyone have a good suggestion for another tool to use? Can anyone tell me how best to use Visual Studio 2005 locally - then I could upload files via FTP which does work, just not through Visual Studio.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice...

Tony

The way to work with DNN is to build your modules locally using either the built in web server or IIS.  Once your module is complete package it up using the module packager on the Module Defintions page.  then install your module on your test site, once youre happy install it on your live site.
