i made a copy of my site (files + database) on a new server that has a different URL than the old server. First of all the server name is different, and the new site is in the root instead of in a vdir. when i load the site on the new server, it immediately redirects my browser to the old URL (which i suspect is in the database). Why is it redirecting? How do i turn off this redirect so I can get the site to work on the new server without going to a new URL?

thanks!

P.S. dnn V4.3.5 i think...

You will need to add an entry into the PortalAlias table for your new URL.  You will then need to restart the application for the change to take effect, you can do this by adding a space to the web.config file.

As for your location switch.  You might have some links in text/html modules that reference the old folder path.  if you need to remove them you might have a look at my free Text/HTML Replacement module available at http://www.mitchelsellers.com

yep - although i should mention that i had to restart iis (on the hosted server i had to modify the web.config to get the server to reload the cached content).

I added one new row to the PortalAlias table with the same portal id (0) and the host name only (no http, etc) in addition to the row that was there already with my internal ip from the first installation. now the same database works in both places, and i can run my tests on changes locally before running them on the production box.

Thanks!
