I'm looking to make a few changes to the registration process:

First, I would like to require that the user receive an email before their account is active.

Second, once they login, I would like to set a cookie on their machine that keeps them logged in indefinately.

Can these features be implemented with the current registration system in DNN or would I need to build something from scratch.

If I would need to build from scratch, can anyone point me at any documentation on doing so?

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

If you set your portal to use private registration, once the user has registered they will receive an email that give them a registration code they need to use when first logging into the portal. Until they put that code in and their username & password, they won't be able to access anything.

As for the cookie to keep them logged in indefinitely, there is a cookie set if they click on the 'remember me' link. I think you can control the amount of time that cookie lasts in the web.config, it might be the PersistentCookieTimeout settings. I think the default is 0, which means it doesn't timeout at all. I have always left it at the default in all my portals and never had an issue. I'm sure there is more info within the forums for this setting. It looks like you can do all of the things you want without any custom modifications. Isn't DNN great :)

The registration type that you want to have the confirmation code is Verified.

You will need to change the cookie timeout value in the web.config as by default it is 60 minutes
