Hi, I'm new to DNN and skinning. I followed a tutorial on how to create "MyFirstSkin". It's a very simple design and it all works well in the main part of the site. However, when I get to the blog and forum portions of the site, it uses the one of the default skins (DNN Blue). Further, my uploaded skin is not available to apply to this module. I've looked through the documentation (which I don't fully understand) and I don't know why my skin isn't available for the forum or blog.

Any direction on this issue would be greatly appreciated! The site is www.2sidesmagazine.com.

Check the page settings (icon top left when you're looking at the page) for the pages that are faulty and check that you haven't specified an incorrect container or skin just for that page. Change the drop down lists to "None Specified".

Then check that you haven't specified any wrong containers per module - check the module settings for each and ensure it is also set to "None Specified".

Then also check in the Admin, Site Settings page that default skins and containers have been specified - for both portal and for admin pages.

Thanks Rob, that worked great. It was so simple after I knew what I was looking for!

As for the Political forum on the site. I think the default layout was a 2 column layout. Mine's 3 column. I thought I saw somewhere in THIS forum that it there's  a way to hide the right column if it's not needed. How do I do that?

There are all sorts of way to handle panes. I tend to make use of stretchy panes whereby I make the main content pane 100% wide and the other panes no width. The content will fill whatever space is available. I can use a special container for the side columns that forces the column out to a set width when content is present.

However, because a typical site will often have a permanent need for a skin that does not have a side column, I usually make a copy of the skin and remove the additional pane just for those pages. This is then also usually used as the admin skin as well because admin skins don't use additional panes anyway.

The default DNN skins have a table halfway down the code that contains all of the panes. Open your skin's ASCX file and look for that table. You can alter the layout of that table and remove panes. You need to look in the skin.css file to see what styles have been applied to the panes and you may find you need to change the class names in the table and add new styles to the css.

The thing that magically turns any table cell or a div into a pane is: id="Panename" runat="server"

Make a single column skin and apply that as the admin skin and make a dual column one for your forum.

Hope that helps

Hi, thanks for the idea. But, does that mean I'm copying the existing skin and changing it, then renaming it to a different name? My first skin is called skins; so I could duplicate ALL the files in the skin and upload it as a new name, i.e., skins2.
