I don't delve into DNN very much but it is an amazing product we use in my workplace.  I am looking for a user document management solution and have found many (like by  Snowcovered and DocLink). But I am not sure what to look for?

We have documents that are for external customers and right now they just get sent a link to a page where they can sort all documents (unsecured).  We would like them to be able to have specific documents presented based on their needs (we only have like 12 sets of documents that need to be grouped).  So that customer "A" would get a link that would display documents relevant to them.  These documents do get updated from time to time, so the "link" would need to always serve up the current versions.

We may also like to have all documents available for them to search through using standard search criteria.  These are mostly PDFs but also include Word docs, Powerpoints,  and Excel sheets.

It seems like something that DNN does very well, just wanted some expert advice and direction.  Thank you.

Others will certainly have more expert opinion than I, but check out the Repository module:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Projects/ModuleRepository/tabid/830/Default.aspx
and
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/54/scope/threads/Default.aspx

This is included in the core product. It is a sleeper in that it can be widely customized to do a variety of tasks, much more than some of the other modules. If you need versioning and fancier options you'll have to go to the commercial modules. You should try searching these forums for "document" or "repository" or enter some of the commercial product names to get more opinions.
