Hello all and thanks in advance for your help.

I'm was using DNN 4.6.2 with the FCK Editor that comes with it. Now I've upgraded the site to DNN 4.8.0 with the standard FCK Editor. I'm having the same problem with either version.

Here's the problem:

I want to have a different toolbar set for different users and/or groups. I've created a different toolbar set, added it to the web.config file, and it shows up under the HOST log-in. However, the "disable" check box is greyed out for all of the different toolbar sets.

When I select the customized toolbar set for the specific user or group, there is no way to "save" my selections, either for the instance, module, or portal. It goes back to giving everyone access to the DNN-Default Toolbar, but only if the module is "displayed" on the page. If the module is not displayed, the "basic" toolbar is available and I cannot change the options for adding/removing the different buttons.

Why can I not select a given toolbar set with a user and/or group and "save" it so when the user or a member of that particular user group logs in, the custom toolbar set I've created shows up and works for that user?

Right now, the forced options are either the complete toolbar set (if the module is displayed on the page) or the "basic" toolbar set (if the module is not displayed on the page). I need some options in-between those extremes and to eliminate the forced option of "make all toolbars available for all users" into an option that I can choose if necessary.

Has anybody had any luck at all with doing this? I can't believe I'm the only developer in the world having this issue.

I also tried this on DNN 4.5.5 and it does the same thing. The options to do this seem to be there but they don't work. Does anybody know why?

This is SO frustrating.

My sincere thanks in advance for your help.

Much thanks and appreciation!! Mr Happy

I've had this issue before, It's mostly down to an unclear interface...

First when you select the custom editor options you will notice there are a group of radio buttons to the top right of the box containing the settings these define the scope these settings will be applied, for example, if you assign a limited edit box to every anonymous user you could assign it to the entire portal etc...

  1. Select the scope of the settings
  2. Scroll to Editor toolbarview options
  3. Edit the toolbar settings:
    • select the pencil beside the toolbar name
    • select which view roles should be able to see/use the toolbar
    • select what looks like a check box where the pencil appeared previously to save. (To cancel select the x to the right of this tick)
  4. below the scroll area that contained the settings there is another drop down list which contains the scope to which your new settings should be applied
Select the appropriate option(i'd suggest the option you selected at the start)
  5. select apply
  6. A dialogue box will appear to confirm select okay
  7. close the FCK custom options page window
  8. under the textbox where you selected customer editor options select Refresh Editor

A little conveluted I know but I hope that helps

John

THANK YOU John!  What a stupid usability flaw - the tick box is easy to miss, so most (including me ) will just click "Apply" after editing the permission, then scratch head when the setting is lost!  Note that the setting still appears to be applied after clicking Apply, it only resets after leaving the dialog box, increasing the likelyhood of confusion.

This desperately needs a state check to see if the user is editing a permission, and ask them if they'd like to save the permission change before applying.  Any ideas if this has been fixed in v5?  It's still present in v4.9.4.

Cheers,  Ben
