Hello,

I'm just getting started with DNN (just installed the starter kit) and wanted to try my hand at implementing a layout for starters. However when I try to create a new DNN Skin through VS 2008 -> new object -> DNN Skin, I am not able to create any DNN objects with C# as the primary language. Does DNN not support C#? I'm really, really not fluent in VB.Net (to the point where I have a hard time reading the code) and I don't particularly want to learn it. I've tried the other OS CMS out there and from what I can tell, I think DNN will be the easiest for me to use when designing small websites.

Thanks for your help,
Chance

I am not sure what objects you are trying to create within the skin, but you can create Modules and Providers with C#.

Chance,

You can certainly create C# modules for DotNetNuke. Engage Software create C# modules as a rule.

We are currently working on a C# Web Application Project style template that we will release to the public (in fact, my co-worker is hard at work right now). Look for it soon on the Engage Modules site or in the Announce It! forum.

For more information , Phil Haack has a good post about DotNetNuke Web Application Projects on his blog (though its from nearly two years ago).

Take care,

Ian

I took two screen shots so I could show you guys what I meant. If I try to add a new file in VS2008, I am given the option of a skin file if I have VB as my language, otherwise I don't have the option.

Chance,

A skin generally consists of xhtml/css inside of an html file or an aspx file.  The language under which the skin template appears may not be relevant.  Do you have any specific intent to use .net code in your skin?

Take care,

Ian
