I am migrating a DNN 3 site for a client from WH4L to a dedicated server. It has been quite a while since I have done anything in DNN 3. So I got everything transferred, restored the db, updated the web.config to point to the new sql server, but I cannot get the site to come up.

Any ideas on first things to check related to this. It is the only DNN 3 site on the server. There are plenty of DNN 4 sites working fine. I set this new site to use .NET 1.1 and then tried .NET 2 just to see if I could get it to come up. No success. Is there something I am forgetting? I use DotNetPanel for my control panel. I have also set it up with a dedicated app pool.

Thanks for any help you can provide. I am not getting any errors. It just hangs up the browser.

Is the URL the same?  it sounds as if the URL isn't the same and the portal alias is hanging.

If the URL has changed you will need to add/update an entry to the PortalAlias table.

I created a temp url using my control panel. But then today I got the owner to update one of the urls to point to my nameservers, since they have a few different urls for this site.

I can definitely get to the site and if I drill all the way down to a file in the root I can see that file, such as http://www.arizonaswingnetwork.com/cliff.bmp

So I thought, I will just try to go ahead and do the upgrade from 3.0.13 to 4.4.1 and see what happens. I have done at least one upgrade all the way from 3.1.1 to 4.4.1, so I thought I would try again. I deleted all the vb files, changed this back to .NET 2, but left it in its own app pool for testing. The upgrade went through with the information below. It looked mostly successful. I checked in the db and see that the version table got updated, so I know it is connecting to the db.

Another item to consider is that there was a module called WCC.Amazon installed. I noticed that it had 17,000 xml files in its cache folder and was up to 75 MB. The owner said he did not use this so before the upgrade I had already deleted the xml files, removed this module from any tabs and then deleted the dlls from the bin folder.

Please feel free to review the upgrade results below and let me know if there is anything I could be missing. Right now it is still hanging.

During this process the only error I have gotten is the one just below. at present I am not getting any errors. Just hanging there doing nothing.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Please let me know if any of the errors in my last post are critical. Here is the latest.

I was poking around the database and found the URLs table in which I saw some urls to internal pages on the site. I tried one and it worked. Here it is.

http://www.arizonaswingnetwork.com/AboutUs/MissionVisionStatements/tabid/67/Default.aspx

So once I got to this page, I can get to pretty much every other page, with exception of the Home page. So there is something on the home page that is causing the issue. My next step is to see which modules are loaded on the home page and start removing them in the db until I can it to come up. Any advice on this approach or a better approach would be great.

Also, when poking around in the db I was looking for the table where the Admin / Site Settings are stored and could not find that. I see HostSettings table but not SiteSettings or AdminSettings. Where can I find this in the db?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
