Hi everybody,

I experienced an issue so terrible.

I installed a Web Server using DNN vbersion 4.07.00. I configured SMTP services and it worked correctly until I decided to move the website from LAN to DMZ.

Obviously, after I change the server to DMZ, I also changed SMTP configuration.

Link between LAN and DMZ is done by a CISCO PIX. I verified its configuration and there is no problem.

When I do the SMTP test, I obtain, may be after approximativly 90 sec, an "Windows Internet Explorer" message box with the following message "Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException: The server request timed out".

If you have any idea, thank you.

Arnaud

the firewall might block communication in either or other direction between LAN and DMZ.

Hello Sebastian,

I agree with you. But I looked into the firewall logs, and I found nothing in. If you have any idea of which type of communication can be blocked.

The most strange thing is in the same context, I have an antoher website cut using DNN version 3.2.2 (with Asp.NET 1.1), this website is also in the DMZ and it works.

Is your SMTP server in the DMZ or LAN?  There are a number of reasons this message can come back, but basically it's because DNN can't reach the SMTP server you specified.  Could be firewall, could be network addressing, could be address translation and could be name resolution.  You'll need to check each to rule it out, and still may not find the problem immediately.

Jeff,

Thank you. My SMTP server is in the LAN. I did a test from a test application "Send Mail" and it's work. So I'm not sure it's really an smtp error, it seems to be a timeout but I don't know which type of timeout.

The thing is very strange : it's work whis an other server but using older version for DNN.

If you have any idea...

Arnaud
