In the design of my site I want to be able to have a main (master) navigation bar across the top of my website which will also have an advertising banner. I will also have a banner to the right of the website.

When a user registers on the website I will give them their own portal. I want the main nav bar and right banner to be across their website. I want these to be not editable when the user is editing their website.

Can I do this or is portals the wrong way to go about it. Should I go down the myspace/facebook idea - I do want to control what modules they use (force modules)

Any input or direction to modules would be much appreciated.

I would use DNN of course.

As for your need, I am sure others will give a better method, but just off the top of my head, I would think that you could control portions of all sites in how they will be formatted by using skins, and not allow Admins of each portal to upload skins.   Insert code for the display of the banner, or banners, into each skin that you will make available to users.   The navigation type can be controlled the same way.

When a user registers a site, and a new portal is created, the new admin can then choose from pre-defined skins.   The challenge would be in having enough skins to satisfy the users desires.
