One thing I have noticed in sites using DNN is the overuse and 'abuse' of using the membership module. I am getting annoyed with sites requiring you to register just to do do basic stuff on the site. and then you see that members stats module showing in the home page. You know that the site owner is trying hard to boost their membership. and for what purpose? Is DNN making this too easy to use that site owners habitually use this module?

Why can't I visit a DNN site without that 'login - register' strip somwhere on the home page? You know you're on a DNN site if you see one. it's like a trademark.

I haven't gotten into DNN but it seems this login feature is a default one which can't be turned off?  There are many dnn sites which have no log in purporse other than for the site owner to admin their site. I believe then that the login should be in a private page for the admin to know about and use.

A site should have alogin link only when it has memership only features available to the public.

Like you said, you haven't gotten into DNN.  The login token can be removed from a skin without problems, and you can use a different login page if you wish.  Feel free to design your site however you wish.
