I am currently experiencing an issue where after my configuration options have been saved in the Admin > User Accounts > User Settings > they are not retained.

I have set these options (mainly ones in the lower half of the page) atleast 4 times in the last week, and at random intervals, they all revert back to their default settings.  This is causing me problems because mainly I want the user profile completed during registration.  I don't want the two-step process for users registering then coming back and completing their profile.

I have attempted to search these forums for the last week, but I get NO SEARCH RESULTS from the forums 95% of the time either.  Search response is slow to non-existent, and I think out of maybe 50 searches in the last week, I've gotten search results on maybe 5 of them.  This is not very effective since 90% of responses to posts on these forums state: Search the forums.

If I am missing a blatently obvious issue, please point it out, because this is turning into a major issue that my registration requirements are changing without my control whenever they damn well please...

Versioning:  DNN v4.8.0 - Clean install using installer on a Windows 2003 Server, MS-SQL Workgroup Edition (v8.x) DB Engine (non-upgradable due to limitations with other hosted software).  No custom development or modules are installed.  Everything is based on DNN packages available here.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

This is one of the things I've been seeing a lot of posts about and is keeping me from upgrading to 4.8

I haven't seen a fix mentioned, but it's certainly happening to a lot of people.

Use Google to search the site here.. the forum is no use.

Tried that, and still can't find a response. At this point, I'm at a loss. In one day, my post went to the fifth page of topics here, with only one reply, and absolutely no acknowledgment from anyone who develops the software to even say "It's a known bug" or "your and idiot and don't know what your doing". I'm thankful that atleast ROBAX replied to me, and unfortunately, he's as stuck for an answer as I am. It's a damn shame because at this point, I'm looking at being forced to get rid of this application from my servers and go back to finishing writing my own application that was 50% done before I attempted to use this software. It had great reviews and tons of sites running it. But it seems to be clear that unless you're a big company willing to spend lots of money, or you write a mean and rude reply like the one I'm writing here, you are on your own. What's the point? It's a wonderful application. ALMOST. It's like the bait and sinker trick -- bait you with an app that ALMOST runs great, then tell you that we offer support agreements if you're having problems. I'm not a fortune 500 company, and I see this software being managed by mostly MS-MVPs or MCPs or whatever... That means that these guys are probably busy with real jobs, I understand that. But when it comes to releasing an application whether it's opensource or not, you should support it OR ask more members to come onboard and HELP YOU SUPPORT IT. But in this case, that doesn't seem to apply. Here, it seems that if your not a big spender, your support is not worth anyone's time... Maybe I should outline my frustration more: I've followed the instructions (OUTDATED INSTRUCTIONS AT THAT) for installation methods either via the installer or by the source. I have gone rounds and rounds trying to get MS Visual Studio Express installed (again, following the directions)... Everytime I try to load the source, I get errors complaining that the project or some solution file is not supported by the Express Edition... I'm not a wealthy developer, and cannot afford the full blown version of any of these applications, nor can I seem to get the recommended practices for ANYTHING that I've tried to do with this application to work. Can you people tell I'm frustrated yet? If you (the developers) don't know why your program does or doesn't do something, you should atleast TELL PEOPLE THIS instead of ignoring them like they don't exist, hoping their request for help with your 'wonderful' application makes it to the back pages and they 'just go away' because honestly, that's how I feel I've been dealt here... Again, Thanks to ROBAX for trying to help me atleast find a solution to my problem, although I can see his hands are just as tied as mine... I've got a system that claims to be the ANSWER to everything, but everytime I try to do something, it winds up where I have to spend money to get it to function, when the software advertises core functionality for free... Good Day Gentlemen -- you have just disappointed another person who manages enough websites that you might have actually gotten some agreements from my clients... But when I can't even get an "I don't know" answer from the people who develop it as a noteworthy product, well... How am I supposed to put my reputation on the line for that? I'm at a loss and I give up... Atleast when I wrote something in ASP, I could predict it's results...

I fully understand the feeling.. the DNN experience has at times been about the most frustrating thing I've ever approached, anywhere.

I've done another quick search but couldn't specifically find the threads... all I can say is that there has been discussion about this issue in 4.8 because I'm subscribed to all posts in a few forums here (because the forum is buggy and won't let me post threads unless I'm subscribed!) so I flick past a hundred or more a day as I delete them. It has been a good way to get a feel for what problems keep coming up.

My advice would be to do it by elimination.... if you are able, download and install DNN 4.7 and check for the problem. I'm still running 4.7 and can confirm that it does work as it should and profile properties hold. If it works for you as well, then stick with 4.7, skip 4.8, report the issue in the public section at support.dotnetnuke.com and carry on with better things.

I'm not part of the core team and have no relationship to DNN at all, except I've been running dozens of sites on it for 3 years.  DNN for me has been one of the best, most stable pieces of software I've ever used and I give great credit to the core team for all they do.  They have also posted thousands of answers here AT NO CHARGE to anyone.

You can't use FREE software, come to a FREE public forum and expect support as if you bought a product.  If you want support SLAs, then buy a support contract.  If you are not willing to buy support, then be grateful for the thousands of people willing to help here and realize that FREE support may not be as fast as you'd like.

That said, your issue is covered here:  http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=7003&PROJID=23

Best Regards and Good Luck with your issue.
