I have a feature request based on a post I made in the Active Directory forum here at DNN.  If the forum is moderated, it would be good if the poster could see their posted message even before approved by the moderator.  This could be an option and if so, it should default to on.  Earlier, I may have submitted a post.  I am not sure if I did or not because since the forum is moderated, I can't tell until the moderator approves it.  At this point I have a choice, either post it again, possibly double posting it, or wait a while and if its not there, post it again.  It seems like a no brainer to just have the forum display it to the submitter even if its not yet approved by the moderator.

Also, the reason I am not sure if I submitted or not is I found the screens confusing for submitting the post.  I typed it all in and decided to hit the preview link.  Once I looked at the preview, I decided I wanted to edit the message more.  But, my choices were (I think) Update and Cancel.  Boy, I didn't like either one of those.  I was afraid that cancel might cancel my entire message and I just didn't want to risk that after typing it all in.  So, I hit update.  I think that submitted my message even though I still wanted to edit it.  I think the menu options on the preview page might should be renamed.

Hi Joe.  I haven't seen you in here or at the group lately, what's up with that?  Did you find a home for that dog yet?

I agree that the wording is inappropriate the way you explained it, I never really noticed.  I think the wording should be changed to Update & Edit.  I would say submit instead of update but I am not sure we want to stray from the normal core terminology just yet and I am thinking about it further.

The first thing you mentioned I would call a post queue.  Thinking about this now, I don't think it would be appropriate to actually show unapproved posts inline because it could show things to a single user which all the others don't see and this could cause some confusion for that end user.  (flow of conversation, seeming ignored because non moderated users can post anyways in a reply situation)  As for the user being able to see a list of posts in queue, this might not be a bad idea.  I am also wondering if they should be allowed to edit non-approved posts from here as well.  I will have to revisit these things once some client api things are handled for the module I have been working on.

Yeah, I missed January's meeting and have been so busy, I don't even know when February's is.

Ok, I just hit the preview link on this message, and the choices are Update and Cancel.  I found that a little unnerving after typing in a long message with some screen scraped error text.  For Update, maybe something more like Submit or Post?  For Cancel, you suggested Edit.  That is certainly more clear, but you could also consider Return (which seems to be used in DNN a good bit).  And if multi-word links are allowed, perhaps "Return to Edit" or something like that.

>>this could cause some confusion for that end user.

It would definitely have to be visibly obvious.  I was thinking something along the lines of the way DNN outlines a module in red when only admins have view permission.  But you would probably want it to look different than that, but similarly marked in some way.  And yes, I would recommend they be editable.  This brings up the issue of does it have to be remoderated if an edit is made after moderator approval.  But, even if you are not allowed to edit the text of the message, it would sure be nice to be able to change the Notification option.  I am always submitting the message and forgetting to turn it on.  Then, since its moderated, I have to wait (sometimes) hours for the moderator to approve it and then I can turn it on.  So even if you didn't show the unapproved message in the flow and there was a separate queue for my unapproved posts, at least having the ability to turn on (or off I guess) notification would be a very nice convenience.

Thanks for responding.

With the showing of unapproved posts my suggestion is show them in the users 'my posts' listing with some form of formatting to differentiate from the approved posts.
