I saw this last night:

http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=9568

There isn't enough info on the page to say if it will do it in a workable manner, but if you try it out, let us know how it goes.

I noticed there's a demo site and I tried it out.. slow, but real nice. It saves the custom layout for the person signed in... and it's also a lot smoother than the core drag and drop function.

I've asked if he will add a reset button to restore the layout to defaults.

I have a question about the use of iFrames and/or DNN modules.

Firstly my goal is to have a front page very similar to the new BBC beta homepage - http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/beta/

I have developed a dynamic web site, using ASP.NET 2.0 web parts that enables a user to configure a page to their liking. It allows them to add modules from a predefined list, move modules around the screen, edit properties of modules and even restrict module usage based upon database settings.

I am currently viewing this in a DNN page via an iFrame and it appears to work fine.

BUT is this the "RIGHT" way of doing things in DNN? It almost feels like cheating? It does however give me exactly the functionality I want, with the smooth movement of modules and the additional web parts catalogue options.

Should this really be converted to a DNN module or is hosting this in a separate website and viewing through an iFrame perfectly acceptable?

Any advice would be REALLY welcome.

DNN 5 is supposed to have such kind of feature. Will the core team respond what features would be included in the first release of DNN 5? I think everyone will be interested...

Also, check out the http://www.asp.net/community/projects/#applications  and the http://www.dropthings.com/ site where everything is made using ASP.NET 3.5; also, the source code is available...

[EDIT] Also, there is a Gaia Ajax Framework - http://ajaxwidgets.com/AllControlsSamples/ that does this things. There is also a DNN module available. GPL license... so everyone benefits :)

Thanks,

Catalin
