Hello,

First of all, let me say how much I enjoy the Repository module and how useful it is for a variety of applications.  Kudos for all of the great work; it is very appreciated!

Anyhow, I am hoping that someone will be able to answer a question for me regarding the Repository's "default" skin.  Our organization is using the Repository and this skin to house a library of downloadable "Best Practices" for internal use and reference.  We utilize the "Image" entry field to display an icon signifying what type of document a user will be downloading.  An example can be seen at the following URL:

http://i25.tinypic.com/1zcoad5.jpg

What we would like to happen is that whenever a user clicks this icon, they receive the same pop-up download prompt that they would by clicking the tiny "DOWNLOAD" link in the lower right corner of each entry.  Is this possible?  Currently, clicking this icon simply opens a new browser window which displays the icon image and nothing more, which in my personal opinion is rather counterintuitive and not very useful or practical.

Any help that can be provided would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I was wondering about this too.  It would be cool to be able to upload like...say a PDF icon and have people be able to click the PDF and download the file from clicking on the PDF image.

I'm not sure actually why I would want the image of the PDF to open up in a new window with the full size image of the PDF icon and the "download" link be a link to the .doc, .pdf, .zip, whatever.  Does anyone use this module in this way?  I'd be curious to see why.  Unless both file and image are...images....then it makes sense I guess.

Thanks!

Hi,

After some messing around with the repository module...I guess the solution is to create your own custom template.  So, in your template you would have something like the following....

<a href="[FILEURL]">[FILEICON]</a>

The documentation is hidden deep within the bowels of the dotnetnuke website.  =)  Found at the bottom of this page.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ModuleRepository/Downloads/tabid/831/Default.aspx

I had found this documentation last week somehow and I just tried to find it again so I could post the link here.  I was clicking around for about 5 minutes until I finally....

  1. Went to About > Dev Team in the top nav.
  2. Scrolled down.
  3. Clicked on Module :: Repository in the left nav under the "DotnetNuke Projects" heading.
  4. Clicked on Project Downloads from the left nav under "Quick Links"

there is a caveat with the above solution .. if people download the file by clicking on the image using this method ( using the FILEURL token in an a tag ) the download count will not be incremented.

Let me explain ... in order to count downloads, when the user clicks on an item that click needs to be sent back to the server so the item being downloaded can be retrieved from the database and the download count can be incremented. If you use the suggested method, then when a user clicks on the image, the browser will simply redirect them directly to the file, bypassing the server and therefore the download will not be counted.

If you are not interested in keeping track of how many times a particular file has been downloaded, then the above suggestion will work.

A code change would be necessary to provide direct file downloads from clicking on the image. There is already an item posted in Gemini requesting that enhancement however it has not yet been implemented.
