Hi,

We have a DNN 4.5 portal running on Win2k3 Server with SQL Server 2005 and have integrated Moodle (a PHP based Learning Management System that allows either MySQL or MS SQL Server as database) in test environment successfully.

Just got a new server for Moodle with Win2k3 Standard Edition R2, IIS 6, PHP (ISAPI) configured. Our requirement is for users to pass through from DNN site to access courses and after completion progress tracked in the main DNN site.

Just wondering which of the following enviroments would work best for performance using latest Moodle version 1.8

1. DNN portal and MS SQL Server Database on one server integrating with Moodle portal using MySQL database on new windows server.

OR

2. DNN Portal and Moodle Portal on same Windows Server and both databases in SQL Server 2005 on a different server.

Many Thanks
Arif Shah

Hi, Tell me more.  I have the need for what appears to be the same integration, DNN portal to Moodle.  Any ideas or plans you have would be helpfull.

Thanks,

Jon

You should always move your database to another server whenever possible.  The main reason - performance.  You distribute the work that the application has to do across the two servers.  Another reason - security.  Web Servers are hacked all of the time.  Putting your database on a separate server forces intruders to find another way to your data once in on the web server (usually).  There are many other reason, but most of which are dependant on your exact environment.

I like to learn more about your integration with Moodle. I am looking at this integration now and would like to learn more about integrating DNN security with DNN and learn more about how your implementations.
