I have created a 6-7 pages on DNN using version 4.08 and they all have links on the Navigation. Some of the pages are only to be accessed by Registered users and I have set permission for these pages in such as way that only REGISTERED USERS have access. Now, when I do this, links for these particular pages disappear from the Navigation (when you are not logged in) and re-appear only when you are logged in. I still want those links to show there even if that page required authentication (and the page to show the Account Login module)

What seems to be the issue here??

kcsurfer,

The way that DotNetNuke works out of the box does not support the functionality you are requesting. When you make a page available to only certain roles, that goes for the page as well as any link to the page in the menu. Maybe you would benefit from making the modules on those pages visible to the registered users role, and make The pages themselves visible to all users.

Take care,

Ian

Ian,

That helped and although that means that I would have to change settings for all modules for these pages, it gets the job done. I made the page visible to ALL USERS and changed the modules to display only to REGISTERED USERS and only the Account Modulle to UNAUTHENTICATED USERS. Thank you.

kcsurfer,

You're welcome, I know the solution was not ideal - and often times there isn't an ideal solution. But the great part about it is that DotNetNuke is constantly evolving to meet the needs of its users -- so things like this over time will be addressed as the platform becomes more robust.

Take care,

Ian

KC,

Another option you would have it to use the Links module or Text/HTML module to show links to those other pages.

My question, though, is why would you want to display links to pages if a non-registered user can't get to its content?  It would be very frustrating to click on a link and find out you can't get to its content (especially if SOME of the content is available to non-registered users).  It would become a guessing game for visitors to the site.
