Very basic install. No content on site. Simple simple simple skin. Takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load (the first time) After that it's not bad.

Compression is on.

What am I missing? Nobody is going to wait that long for a website to load.

Here is a link: www.mikedembeck.com/dnn

Oh... the DNN above is a virtual directory. Will that cause a slow down?

Thanks,

B

Hi B,

There's any number of reasons DNN may be running slow for you...

Perhaps you're in a shared hosting environment where other sites are eating up the CPU and RAM available? The hosting environment has speed between web server and database server? Etc.

I'm running DNN 4.0.2 in a shared hosting environment and am experiencing satisfactory speeds - gavinharriss.com

Anyway, thought I'd make you aware of a problem I started to experience while hosting DNN as a sub application (/dnn). I was recently doing this but started to experience intermediate problems as I was in a medium trust environment it seems. Just something to watch out for (hopefully you won't have the same problems as myself), check out this post for more info in case it's relevant to your site.

Reagrds,
Gavin.

Hey bsharp,

I just posted to a thread on Lets Chat about it and I'm lazy.  :)

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/118/threadid/19960/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Basicly on the first access to your site after an application restart is going to be slow.  Not a lot you can do about it.  When your application starts for the first time all of the VB code that runs everything is compiled and then cached until the application stops.  There are several layers of caches that need to be filled also.

I like the look of your skin BTW. You'll have a very nice looking site when you get it all finished.

Cheers,

Paul Davis

For site with little traffic you can use a site like www.host-tracker.com. They offer free site monitoring and you can set them up to hit your site every 15 minutes, which is usually more than enough to take care of the JIT compile delay.

Does having your site hit every 15 minutes eat up your bandwidth?
