I have spent the past 3 days tracking down the sporadic eMail problems with GoDaddy hosted accounts; here are my results:

For GoDaddy “Economy” plans the DNN 3.1.0 version of dnn works fine with NO eMail problems anywhere.

However the GoDaddy “Deluxe” plans are riddled with eMail problems:

1)      For the GoDaddy supplied dnn 3.1.0 eMail works 60% of the time at various locations within dnn

2)      For my hand installation of dnn 3.2.2 eMail works about 40% of the time and never works for new members authentication eMail.

3)      For my hand installation of dnn 4.02 eMail works about 10% of the time and never works for new member authentication alerts, and never for bulk newsletter eMails and once in a while for forums posting alerts.

eMails, for all modules in dnn 3.X and 4.X, occasionally work – there is NO module that consistently fails.

This problem is GdDaddy’s fault and I’ve alterted them that the same dnn 3.1.0 that they make available for downloading on their Economy and Deluxe plans work for Economy but not Deluxe.  I expect no help from GoDaddy in this situation.

So what to do?

I really wanted to start off DNN with 4.02 but it looks impossible on GdDaddy.

Anyone have some suggestions for a cheap, reliable hosting site for DNN 4.02?  I am now an expert at installing dnn so I don’t require any help at all in this area.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, about 5 minutes after clicking the Submit button for this post I got 200+ eMails – all from the GoDaddy Deluxe web site.  These eMails came in about 150 in one dump and 50 or so over the next 2 hours.  These eMails are from the past 3 days.

Just guessing, but I see eMails from setting up new members to newsletters to eMail alerts to new posts.  Perhaps all the eMails that I thought were lost are in this dump, but there are too many to make sense of them.

So my suspensions of GoDady having an eMail problem is correct.  There is no eMail error in any DDN version.

I’m installing ddn 4.02 again on my Dexluxe GoDaddy account and will alert you to what happens in the next week or so.
