There are plenty of fly-by-night and just plain useless developers selling DNN modules. I would estimate that perhaps only 1/5 of the modules available on Snowcovered  and elsewhere are actively developed and supported. One of the things you must do before buying any is to ask the developer some questions about it and see what they say. How they respond will tell you everything you need to know.

Frozen,

As Robax mentioned this is sadly something that does happens due to developers that are no longer out there, or are just not dedicated to their products.

I strongly recommend researching the developers in detail before you purchase a module, to try and avoid these situations.

It is a horrible situation to be in, but in all reality you don't have much that you can do, other than actually taking them to court. (If you have basis to do so)

I am an attorney by profession. I can always find something, if I want to. As long as, I honestly believe that I have some ground I can take them to the court. The judge can decide about  the merits.  :)

And what would that solve?  Lets waste time and public money by taking something to court and requiring the time of public servants at the cost of tax-payers just because I think I have grounds.  Yes, lets just go sue anybody and everybody out there for whatever stupid reason I can come up with and see if I can get the idiots in the legal system to agree with me.  "Say a prayer in school" -- I'm going to sue you.  "I broke my leg while robbing your house" -- I'm going to sue you.  "I spilled my coffee in my lap because I'm too stupid to put it in the cup holder while driving" -- I'm going to sue you.  Give me a break, the justice system in the USA is so twisted and warped I'm surprised businesses and personal property exist anymore.  That's not to say that there aren't any valid reasons for going to court, just that most of the reasons out there are purely selfish and self-serving and have nothing to do with justice.

If you really want to improve the situation you might try what others in this thread have suggested -- research your purchases, ask questions, etc before you actually make a purchase.  There are plenty of developers out there slapping crap out hoping to make a quick buck or two.  I think a huge part of the problem is the pricing structure that exists in the DNN module world... there are so many slapping their crap out there for a low price so most people think "hey, if it sucks I'm only a few bucks" and then they buy module after module after module until they finally give in and purchase the more expensive one or give up altogether.  If people stop purchasing crap then those crap developers will stop producing crap.  Law of supply and demand... as long as there is demand for crap it'll be there.

My friend, I am not going to argue about people's right to sue. All I will say is if we decide/stop people from suing people because we think the reasons are silly, it will be like taking the sling from David and giving it to Goliath. Courts are the only recourse for the wronged people unless they take law in their own hands, which we don’t want.

If someone sells modules they better be sure that their modules are of good quality and they support them, and if they don’t, then anyone who buys their module must have recourse. Money isn't free. Not only the buyer gives them money for their crappy modules but the buyer also buys headache and frustration. I know some "silly" suits are filed but honestly even if the suit may seem silly to you and me, it may not to the person who was wronged.

p.s. Please do not take it personally. I don’t want to you to ignore me.
