I'm looking for a DNN module that will allow me to grant permission to specific users, in addition to user roles. Does such a module exist? Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Sure.  Use the Documents Module.  (It really should be called the "Downloads Module".)  You can provider a download link to any file that is allowed to be uploaded to DNN.  Then, set the permissions for the view of that module to only allow the specific users/roles that you want to be able to see it.  Also, I would suggest changing the permissions of the folder in the Admin > File Manager page.

Thanks, Will. I need a little more control, however. I'm looking for a module that will allow me to set user/role permission on a per-file basis to avoid having dozens of modules to update.

For example, I'm setting up a module that will contain curriculum documents for a school. There are about 20 different classes, and about 100 teachers. Some of the teachers teach all the classes, and some teach one or two. There are very few teachers that share common curriculum documents, and I figured I'd need around 25 separate modules to make sure each teacher sees only the documents they teach.

What I'd rather have is one module that lists all documents, and I can assign access at the document level.

Does anything like that exist?

1. I don't think anything like this does exist.

2. Even if it did, I don't think this would be best practice.

I think you would be better organising modules around your classes and assigning teachers to those classes. Teachers may come and go, so it would be easier to group into classes. If you had one module with lots of documents and lots of teachers assigned to them all over the place, it could soon get very chaotic and unmanageable.

hope this helps,

Most (all?) of the document management modules let you assign permissions per document. Go to Snowcovered and do a search. Bring2mind and Xepient and a bunch of others show up.
