I think it would be very handy if in a next version there would be the possibility when adding a new module you get an extra dropdown where you can choose which container you want to use in the top control panel menu. Or maybe it is already possible with some code editing??

Anyways, how do you feel about such an option? It would save me much time when adding modules cuz I use a lot of different versions of skinned containers and then I wouldn't have to go to the settings each time.

Senthrax,

I think this is a GREAT suggestion and would love to see it implemented.

I've often thought the same thing, along with other options such as the edit permission, visibilty, and icons. The purpose is to reduce or remove the currently inevitable need to first go into the module settings every time a new module is added.

Basically there could be an advanced control bar available to certain roles that provided the additional options (in fact, there should be a control-bar per role setting in any case).

In addition, it would be good if an administrator could optoinally apply selected settings as the defaults for the tab, the tree or the portal.

Ps. In the meantime, you can apply a default container to any pane as follows. Add this attribute to the pane cell/div:

  • ContainerSrc="[G]Containers/skinname/containername.ascx"
  • [G] is for Host skins
  • [L] is for portal or Admin skins.

Note that this is broken in DNN 4.7 but should be fine in 4.8

Indeed hope the core team will take this into consideration for the next release.

And thanks Robax for the tip. I'm currently running 4.7 but will be nice when I have upgraded.

TRT Control Panel at davebuckner.com has all of the features you suggested. I highly recommend it.
